Game Review: Skelly Rider

The good folks at BackStab Game Studio, who also produce Skelly Archer, are back at it with Skelly Rider. The premise of their new title is pretty simple, don’t get killed by any of the crazy obstacles that are coming at you. Oh, and I didn’t mention the fact that there are many other inhibiting factors as well, like arrows, fire, and a few others.

wp_ss_20140506_0013The controls for Skelly Rider are pretty simple. Tap the screen to fly up or press the left or right half to move that direction when bad things happen from above. Other than that, you can tap the bottom right corner to use one of your special abilities or the lower left to pause the game. Once you understand those simple steps, you are good to start.

Skelly Rider starts off easy enough, with a few arrows firing at you from straight ahead. A simple tap of the screen flies you above them and letting go of the screen drops you below them. Overall, it was about a 2 on a scale of 10 for hardness.

As the game continues, you have more stuff to maneuver around and some good things to run over like power-ups and coins. The game play is quick and Skelly Rider adds a bit more fun than your typical runner style games usually offer. Ultimately, Skelly Rider is another one of those runner style games, but the great graphics and interesting ‘story’ sure makes it seem more fun.

After mastering basic play, you can start to save up to purchase some additional items, like outfits and pets for your Skelly Rider. If you don’t want to wait, a simple in-app purchase can start unlocking things as well. Overall, Skelly Rider is a good title and is worth a quick peek. It’s a free title right now, so enjoy it while you can for free and make sure to support the developer if you plan on keeping it by purchasing a few items for your rider.

Skelly Rider does have a very large install size that shows over 111MB of storage being used. This really won’t be much of a problem for most users, but for those with 8GB devices that haven’t upgraded to the 8.1 preview, that is a chunk of space for a rather simple title. Even still, take a few minutes and download Skelly Rider today and take it for a test drive.

  1. I'd like to mention that Skelly Rider have been optimized, and now the size of build is only 25 MB :)

  2. I'd like to say that this game is incredible. But bloody hell, the golden slime is so expensive!
